Live Blackjack in Canada

Live blackjack is the most popular table at every Canadian live casino — real cards, a real dealer, and the lowest house edge on the floor when you play it right. Practise free below with a strategy coach, then see where to play for real.

How live blackjack works

At a live blackjack table, a dealer in a studio deals real cards from a multi-deck shoe while several cameras stream the action to your screen. You join a seat, place your bet within a short timer, and then choose to hit, stand, double or split using on-screen buttons. The dealer plays out their hand by a fixed rule — draw to 16, stand on 17 — and the closest hand to 21 without going over wins. A natural blackjack (an ace plus a ten-value card) typically pays 3:2.

Because you are watching real cards rather than a random number generator, many players trust live blackjack more than software versions. The trade-off is pace: a live table runs slower, with a real human rhythm, which is exactly what our demo reproduces — including a few simulated players sharing the table so it feels authentic.

Why basic strategy matters

Blackjack is the rare casino game where your decisions genuinely move the odds. Played with correct basic strategy, the house edge sits around half a percent. Played on instinct, it balloons. The chart above is not a suggestion — it is the mathematically optimal play for every hand, and the coach in the demo nudges you toward it and rewards correct decisions with XP rather than lucky wins.

A few rules carry most of the value: always split aces and eights, never split tens, double a hard eleven against almost anything, and stand on a hard seventeen or higher. Get those right and you are most of the way to playing a near-perfect game.

Where to play live blackjack in Canada

In Ontario, you can play live blackjack at any operator licensed in Ontario — the list below ranks them on live table range, studio quality, payments and responsible-gambling tools, never on bonus offers. Outside Ontario, live blackjack is available through your provincial operator, such as PlayNow in British Columbia and Manitoba or Espacejeux in Quebec. Wherever you play, set a deposit limit before you start and treat it as entertainment, not income.

Live blackjack — FAQ

Is the blackjack demo on this page real money?
No. It uses play money only and is not gambling. It is a free trainer to help you learn the rules and basic strategy before you play live blackjack for real at a regulated casino.
Are the other players at the demo table real?
No — they are simulated demo bots, included so the table feels like a real live game. You only ever play against the dealer.
What is the house edge in live blackjack?
With correct basic strategy the house edge is roughly 0.5% on common rule sets, which is one of the lowest in the casino. Poor decisions push it much higher, which is why the demo coaches correct play.
How does live dealer blackjack differ from RNG blackjack?
Live blackjack is dealt by a real person from a studio and streamed to you; RNG blackjack is instant software. We compare them on live dealer vs RNG.
Can I count cards in live blackjack?
Live games use multiple decks and frequent shuffles, so practical card counting is very hard online. Our demo includes a basic count display purely for learning.
What does the dealer stand on?
In most live blackjack the dealer draws to 16 and stands on 17. Some tables hit a soft 17, which slightly increases the house edge — always check the table rules.
Should I take insurance?
Generally no. Insurance is a side bet with a high house edge; basic strategy says decline it.
When should I double down?
Most often on a hard 11, and on 10 against a dealer 2–9. The demo coach flags the correct double-down spots as you play.
When should I split pairs?
Always split aces and eights; never split tens or fives. Other pairs depend on the dealer’s up-card.
What is a blackjack payout?
A natural blackjack usually pays 3:2. Avoid tables that pay 6:5 — they cost you money over time.
Where can I play live blackjack in Canada?
In Ontario, at Ontario-licensed operators (see the list below). In other provinces, through your provincial operator such as PlayNow or Espacejeux.
What is the minimum age?
You must be 19+ in most provinces, and 18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.
Do live blackjack tables work on mobile?
Yes. Every operator we list streams live blackjack in a mobile browser or app. See our mobile guide.
Which studios run live blackjack?
Evolution is the biggest, with Playtech and Pragmatic Play Live also widely available in Ontario. More on our providers page.
Does the demo save my progress?
Your play chips, XP and decision accuracy are stored in your own browser only. Nothing is sent anywhere — there is no account and no server.
