Poker Holdem takes the familiar shape of Texas Hold’em and turns it into a fast player-versus-dealer game. There are no other players to read and no bluffing — just you, a live croupier, and a single decision each hand: call or fold. That makes it one of the more approachable poker-style games at the live casino, while still rewarding good judgement.

How it works

You place an Ante bet and receive two hole cards, face up. Three community cards (the flop) are dealt to the table. Now you make your only decision: fold, forfeiting your Ante, or call, placing a Call bet of twice the Ante. If you call, the dealer reveals the final two community cards (turn and river), and you each make your best five-card hand from your two cards plus the five on the table.

The dealer needs at least a pair of fours to “qualify.” If the dealer qualifies and you win, both bets pay; if the dealer doesn’t qualify, the Ante pays and the Call is a push. Standard poker hand rankings apply, and premium hands pay bonus odds on the Ante.

Strategy basics

Poker Holdem rewards a simple discipline: call more than you think. With correct play the house edge is about 2.2%, but it climbs quickly if you fold marginal hands out of caution. The broadly optimal approach is to call with any pair, any reasonable high-card combination, and most drawing hands — folding only the genuinely hopeless holdings (roughly the bottom 20%). The single biggest leak among new players is over-folding.

Avoid leaning on the AA Bonus side bet for value; it’s entertaining but carries a noticeably higher edge than the main game.

Where to play in Canada

Poker Holdem is offered by the major studios at Ontario-licensed operators in Ontario, and through provincial operators elsewhere. As always, set your stakes before you sit down — the call bet is double your ante, so a session can move faster than it first appears.

FAQ

Is Poker Holdem the same as Texas Hold'em?
It uses the same hand rankings and community cards, but you play against the dealer, not other players. There is no bluffing — just a call-or-fold decision.
What is the basic strategy?
Call with almost any hand that has a pair or better, or strong drawing potential; the broadly correct rule is to call roughly 80% of hands and fold the weakest. Folding too often is the most common mistake.
What is the house edge?
About 2.2% with correct play, which is reasonable for a poker-style game.
What is the AA Bonus side bet?
An optional side bet that pays if your first five cards make a pair of aces or better. It's fun but carries a higher house edge.
Where can I play live Poker Holdem in Canada?
At Ontario-licensed operators in Ontario, and through your provincial operator elsewhere.
